Mission 6: Choose You-Friendly Exercise

Remember how I said in Mission 2: Take A Reality Check that you wouldn’t have to do any exercise you didn’t want to?

Well, it’s true.

Although you will have to move in order to lose weight, you can do it in any way you want to.

Of course you already know that exercise will help you lose weight. It’s that pesky math thing – calories in versus calories out. And exercise loads calories into the OUT tray.

But remember – it’s not what you know, it’s what you do that brings success or failure.

This mission is the first of several that will make it a lot easier for you to do the things that will help to make you slim.

And a really smart way to make sure you do your exercise is to choose your exercise carefully in the first place.

We’re going to do that by identifying your exercise profile. We’ll then use it to choose an exercise that’s, well, you-friendly! And I’ll reveal a secret about exercising that will give you comfort if you’re screwing up your face and folding your arms as you read this. Unclench!

I’m going to do walking no jogging. Outdoors when the weather allows and on a treadmill if I need to. I’m already doing Parkrun each Saturday (5k walk/run). Improving my fitness and time will be great motivation. Starting Parkrun was thanks to Mission 3…

Goal: Walking daily for 15-30 minutes a day! Walk indoors during inclement weather; walk outdoors in good weather or join a local walking group.

    Our group responses are as
follows: Walking daily for 15-30 minutes a day! Walk indoors
during inclement weather; walk outdoors in good weather. RC has a walking group
we participate in. We would start out with low impact activities with an
exercise buddy. If you have not exercised recently start out slow &
periodically increase. Music can relax you during your exercise time. Most
energetic in the morning or afternoon! Using a stationary bike at home you can
watch a favorite TV show. Investing in a home treadmill is good if you have the
finances & space in your living quarters. If you have medical conditions
please contact your family physician for exercising instructions. Exercise gyms
may ask for a medical note in order to use their equipment.

Our group decisions are: We have answered the questions:
    – Do you prefer to be indoors or outdoors? Walk indoors during inclement weather; walk outdoors in good weather
    – Do you like to work out alone or in a group?
    – Do you prefer high or low impact activities?
    – Do you prefer a consistent or varied pace? Personal choice
    – Do you want to start easy or be immediately challenged? Start easy
    – Do you prefer music, TV, or your own thoughts when you exercise? Music
    – Do you feel most energetic in the morning, afternoon or evening? Morning and afternoon
Having a pace that works for you. Start slow and then speed up.
Stationary Cycling Treadmill Tai Kwan Do is taught at RC. Exercise in RC Exercise Room — it’s free.
Motivate yourself to lose weight and be a healthier person. Remember, your body
must last a lifetime. I believe that you can live as long as you want as long as you are motivated, have a positive attitude, goal oriented and have a love for life.

Walking, zumba…Is the Wii so fabulous? I love indoors activities but I don´t want to have a lot of exercise staff that is not really useful. Next month I´ll go to yoga and pilates classes.

I have a full gym at home, in front of it a 55″ tv with a hard drive full of movies, music and tv episodes. And yet, I don’t enjoy it. What I do enjoy is walking outside with my phone full of music. I have my earphones in and the music up full. The only downside is that I have to wait till my husband is home (he works 7 days a week) so he can watch our boys. But I still find the time. Another form of exercise I love is sex? Is this something that will burn calories? I aim for either once or twice a day. But unfortunately, my husband suffers with this one, sometimes he just begs me to leave him alone so he can recover from the last time.

I will be doing the Turbo Fire DVDs I have here at home, walking around my neighborhood, and taking a Friday night Zumba class. I have used the Zumba on the Wii and I loved it. It has been a desire of mine to take a class in person. There is a class starting next Friday at a gym close to our house. I am going to take that leap and sign up.

I enjoy my dance mat, which connects to the laptop and my wii fit. I like to do these around 4pm everyday (also wine start time!) and someone always rings me when I am doing them, but I really enjoy both these exercises and need to stop insisting that I don’t have enough time to do them. I can do 10 mins on either if I am really busy and that is better than drinking wine instead!

  9. Kaye Nutman says:

A couple of friends said they wanted to leave a message to me on facebook when they read my comments. I hadn’t realised that everyone was seeing it! Embarrassing – and so busted when I wasn’t drinking water in between my wine! I thought the post went to the Michelle Connolly fascebook page. I have unclicked ‘post to facebook’ now.
I am using a pedometer to try and get my 10,000 steps a day, which is very doable since I now take the dog for a walf 6 times a week instead of palming the task off to hubby or son.

In regards to taking vitamins speak to your medical doctor: ask him/her if you should be taking vitamins — if yes, what is best for me and my body?

Well, as I’m reading this, I’m working out on my elliptical, so I guess I would say that is my favorite exercise machine. I do go to the gym, but I prefer to work out alone, listening to my music. I also love to walk and hopefully, one day I can switch that up to jogging. We’ll see…
