Mission 7: Enlist Your Support Team
There are many factors that can help or hinder you in your weight-loss journey.
One of the most powerful is people.
Because they can make a big difference to your success, it’s wise to take stock of your people resources.
First there are the people already in your life. What support do you need from them? What is it fair to ask for? How do you do it? And what if they say No!
Next, is your existing support network enough? Perhaps you need some extra people resources in your life to help you get the weight-loss results you want.
(Remember that with 52 Weight Loss Missions, you have a built-in support network via the online check-ins at the bottom of each mission and on the Facebook Page.)
Let’s address these questions now.

I have a very supportive husband who will help me with the kids so I can run and keep junk food out of the house.
My husband will definitely support me by watching my kids. The ladies I work with are very supportive and most of them work out or are in the process of losing weight/toning up. My friends are a varied bunch. Some are really focused on their families and not so much on their weight situations whereas others are so busy with their work or our schedules are completely off. I have definitely read some of the comments and posts from others on here.
Family will support me in cooking healthy meals as will my work mates, will need to be the leader however when it comes to exercise if I speak up and make the commitment I know my son and hopefully my husband will join in he says he will:)
Enlisting a Support Team Questions:
Name who you would want to support you?
Godson
Friend
My Doctor
My Medical Team.
What support do you need from them? Encourage you on getting slimmer. Be your walking buddy. Monthly Social Night — eat at a healthy place. Sister will walk with me at Eden Park. I run around the park across the street from where I live.
Walking buddy is my sister.
Walking buddy will be a friend.
Walking buddy will be a neighbor.
I have one person that her medication causes problems with being in the sun. Walk indoors or wear a big floppy hat.
What is it fair to ask for? Ask a dietician for a weight loss program/healthy foods to eat for you.
What if they say No? “Thank you”
220 down to 215 lbs.
317 down to 310 lbs.
202 down to 200 lbs.
One will maintain his weight and eat healthier. He is at his ideal weight.
I have one person that has exercised everyday for the last three and a half months.
My husband supports me by looking after our son so I can leave early in the mornings and get some exercise before work, work supports me by allowing me to work flexible hours.
Got my support system in place – everyone’s happy to help! Several friends to check up on my progress, family helping me free up time for exercise and keeping junk out of the pantry.
I’ve asked my mom, fiancé and best friend to support me through this healthier journey of mine. They’re all happy to help keep me accountable and to support me by not going to any fast food and making sure my butt gets to the gym!
Have friend from FB who offered to help. She has lots of experience with keeping the weight off and is encouraging without being pushy. Gave me the best explanation if interval training I’ve ever heard and is very realistic about a starting point, on the treadmill: run for 10seconds, then walk until you can do it again, over time increase the length of runs and decrease the time between runs. That’s something that is geared to success instead of discouraging with too high expectations.
Support system set up. This was a tougher one for me because I find it difficult to ask for help
I asked my husband to remind me to keep taking action, and my Mom to stop bringing my favorite chocolates every time she visits!
Pam at work is also trying to lose weight as well, so I am asking her to keep me on task.
I like the idea of the walking date with friends.
My support team is in an event with invitation only support group on Facebook.
I have to say that from the beginning my family has been really supportive. My husband has been away for 2 months now on a new job but he has seen a recent picture of me in a new dress and he is really happy. By my new actions and results, one of my friends started back at the gym after 3 months of not going. She said I have motivated her. My mom and sister are the greatest encouragers:) Since the weight loss has been going so good, I have brought down my goal to a healthier goal even. I have 9.6 pounds left to lose to me normal with the BMI:)
My hubby’s supportive. He watches the kids (when he can), while I go exercise. Otherwise my parents are great about helping out. I have quite a few options for exercising at home, so I just need to stay with it.
because we are in a new location I only have my husband and children for support at this time. Luckily though they are very good.
My husband is supportive if not nagging at times, but he means well. He was the one who showed me your program. I didn’t do well on WW even though I stayed with in my points so I gave up. Cannot give up this time! The problem is getting workout time with his busy workout schedule (he is a trialthlete and coaches).
I hate to day this but enlisting others in this effort is too public for me. I have one friend who we share daily efforts with and I’ll add this effort to the list of things we support each other on, but I think you’ve got to be your own support many times so that you can build willpower, know that you can do something over and over again. Commit.
Mission 7 is in process! I’m thankful for a special daughter who has inspired me to stay on track and she has a gentle way of keeping me accountable! Also have a small group of ladies whom I meet with every week for a Bible Study on Getting Healthy and Fit. While all of these resources are wonderful, the bottom line is it all begins within ME to have the “want to” in this journey. I’ve been at a plateau for 6 weeks now and struggling within myself to keep going. This is a life time journey and I’m in a weak state right now. Each day is a new day and today I’m hanging in there!
I have a great support system- my husband helps with healthy eating at home- I like exercising alone, except for Zumba 🙂
