There’s a reason this mission is the first one.

Without motivation, you’re unlikely to succeed at your weight-loss goal.

The best knowledge, support, tools and resources will not be enough if they’re unsupported by a strong desire to be slimmer. No matter how good my system and suggestions are, you have to implement them. I can’t do this without you.

With motivation, you will succeed.

You may not lose as much weight as someone else, or at the same speed, but you will get slimmer. It’s that simple.

The secret is to tap into your true motivation for losing weight – which is often not the reason you think you want to lose weight.

This true motivation is the source of your weight-loss success.

    I think my primary motivation is to be more self-confident…so I wrote “be confident” on bright pink post-its and put them on my desk (where I spend most of my time), on the fridge at eye level and in my wallet where I’ll see it when I’m tempted to eat out or buy fast food…I’m really surprised how good it feels just to do this and see this cheery, encouraging reminder!

  • One thing that I really picked up on in my writing for mission one is that I had a lot of words such as settling and giving up. It became clear that regardless of what I did I already had in my mind that I would fail or wasn’t worth trying to change.
    My main motivation for wanting to lose weight then is to regain the confidence and self worth I have deemed myself unable to have for so long. I have been through several weight loss programs and currently do weight watchers although I’m not seeing many results. I used to be the skinny girl and now thanks to 2 kids and medication that has made me gain close 70 lbs since I began it I have all but given up. I refuse to take diet pills as I find them unhealthy and do stick to a generally plant based healthy diet but it seems as though nothing works.. I love this approach though so I look forward to gaining more insight and losing more weight lol

  • Definitely a great exercise to help get to the real root of what will push us into action. I love that this is ACTION-BASED! I’ve had great success in 2012, but now is the time to solidify a systematic approach to maintenance! We all have reached goals, but it’s staying there that’s the challenge for me! Today I picked a picture of a dress I like that would require significant weight loss if I were to wear it to a wedding in the fall. That’s the one that really excited me. I’m a bit worried about having such a (comparatively) short term goal, but my old method didn’t work last time…. I can always come back to this exercise when I hit that goal and pick another goal when I need one.

In May I started an event on my Facebook profile and shared my disappointment, my goal and my need of friends support/encouragement. I have reconnected with that event just now, and have also downloaded the sample… not in a position to do more than that just yet, but hope to real soon, I can see the benefits by the comments I have been going through and reading.
    I want to say thankyou, I was actually looking for ways to motivate myself to do my house work, and again couldn’t get your ebook, so I looked at the other (this one) and have taken heaps of personal notes based on your Missions.
    I have put 1kilo on since May, and I have high blood pressure and the desire to have one last child while I am able, that will make 7. So I am looking forward to see if I can do this!

  • I just started today with mission 1. I was surprised by some of the things I wrote. I just let my brain dump out all of the reasons.   • I thought about this a LOT before I wrote anything down. I blogged about it (anonymously!) and finally wrote it all down in my journal this morning. I have a lot of reasons, but the one that I am most excited about is getting slimmer so that I can walk around Disney for HOURS and not have awful leg cramps all night. I remember what it was like to be in good shape. I MISS it!! Time to get back there!!

    I want to lose weight to avoid getting any diseases when I get older and to avoid losing any mobility. I need to start now before it’s too late. I’m 48. I also want to be more energetic and be more comfortable in my body.

    I want to get healthier and more fit so that I can walk around London next July (so excited for this trip!) and not slow down my family. I want to be able to walk UP the Royal Mile in Edinburgh – which right now, to me, feels like the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest. I’m 54, overweight, and suffer from fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease, and bad knees. I know that losing some weight would help take some of the pressure off my knees and ankles.

    Happy New Year! All done, although I need to choose a physical notebook still. I am the notebook queen so this is an important decision I will make before the week is out! I have opted to use Pinterest boards as a form of motivation for the two motivations I have chosen to take forward, so that I can refresh with constant images and links that inspire as I go.
