Day 1: Find Your Real (Not Pretend) Motivation | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon

Day-1

Welcome to Day 1 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon! Let the fun begin. πŸ™‚

We only have 10 minutes, so I’m going to get straight to today’s action task. This task will provide fuel to fire your motivation for the month ahead. I suggest you read through the steps first, then take 10 minutes to work through the steps.

And because we only have 10 minutes, you need to move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Just throw yourself in. Ready?

What You Need:

Step 1

Remember theΒ 52 Weight Loss Missions sample you downloaded? If you haven’t already, please read pages 6, 7 and the top of page 8.

These pages talk about your genuine, fire-in-the-belly motivation for losing weight. Not why other people want you to lose weight. Not why you think you should lose weight. But the desire deep inside you. This is what we want to uncover.

Step 2

Write at least 20 endings to the sentence below. Write fast. Don’t censor yourself. Let your pen go where your critical, analytical mind might not let you.

I want to lose weight because…

Step 3

Now read back over your answers and pick one or to two that excite you.

Don’t be surprised if they aren’t the reasons you’ve been giving yourself for losing weight. If you’ve struggled to lose weight, then there’s a good chance your supposed reasons are not very powerful.

What you’ve just uncovered is a powerhouse of motivation. Let’s make sure we use it…

Step 4

Write the exciting reason(s) from Step 3 on some post-its, and put them in several places you’ll see them regularly, eg:

  • On your bathroom mirror
  • In your wallet
  • In your diary
  • On your computer
  • On the fridge door.

Let these reminders of your real motivation drive you over the next month.

Check in!

And you’re done! Be sure to leave your comment below to check in and stay accountable.

See you back here tomorrow.

  • John Gomo

Listed 7 reasons to lose weight.

  • Patrecia

I did the exercise and discovered that my real reason is about feeling better about who I am.

  • Day 1 complete!! My boyfriend is also taking this journey with me.

Thanks, Excited to see what I can accomplish with this program.

    Salena Buress

  • Amy Bright

I decided my #1 motivation is to have more self-confidence/be more confident…so I wrote “be confident” on 3 post-its and put them on my desk (where I spend most of my day), on the fridge at eye level and in my wallet to remind me not to eat out or buy fast food.

  • Done.Thank you.

  • I had no idea such a simple exercise could be so enlightening. I want to lose weight so that I can feel sexy again!!!!! That is far for the reason I thought I wanted to lose weight. I think this is going to work.

  • I want to look good in my clothes again. Also, I want to prevent Type II Diabetes. Both of my brothers, who are younger than me, have been diagnoses with Type II Diabetes and are on insulin. I do not want to live that way!

  • I realize I don’t like the way I look or how my clothes fit, it is time for action!

  • I’m going to sound very vain but my answer is I hate how I look, I look/feel fat and bloated! I want to feel pretty and sexy again.
Leana, see your not the only one. πŸ˜‰

  • I have completed the mission, but I don’t really want to stick my motivations all round the house where my kids can see them.

  • Day 1 – I’m b
Not a writer Nd generally don’t write things down when books suggest it. But I did this and couldn’t believe how quickly my list grew! Day one completed πŸ™‚

  • Okay… as vain and selfish as it sounds (and believe you me, this is the hardest part – admitting the real reason why) I want to loose weight cause I want to look pretty again – not just have people say it, but I don’t want to have my back shelf anymore and I want to FEEL pretty myself… AND I want to loose weight cause I want to be able to keep up with my kids and not get winded after walking to the park (literally a 2 min walk from my house).
I know that I’m not supposed to worry about the outside, but how am I supposed to be able to love my God with all my heart when I can’t even like myself?

  • I want to lose weight because I will look better and my health will improve.

  • I feel more self confident and have more energy when I am thinner.

  • I want to lose weight because I want to feel more confident and I want to be healthier. I’m tired of always running out of energy and feeling exhausted.

  • This may be a little selfish- cancer is taking my breast and a reduction is in my future- I will look a lot better if I can reduce the rest of me to match my smaller breasts- It hasn’t happened yet but probably this month-

  • My Dad is only 69 right now and going through a myriad of severe health issues all because he has been severely overweight his entire life and not taken proper care of himself. My mother died almost 4 years ago due to complications from not controlling her diabetes. I want to lose weight so I change my family tree! I want my daughter (and hopefully other children) to have a healthy, happy and fit mama who not only insists that they eat healthy and are active, but is a fabulous health role model.

  • Checking in on Day 1!

  • I want to release the excess weight that has been clinging to my body to relieve the pressure on arthritic joints, look better in my clothes, be able to be more physically active, and just in general to be healthier.

  • I want to lose weight so I can fit into the lovely clothes in my wardrobe that have been unworn for 2 years and so that I feel comfortable in my own skin and not constantly thinking about trying to hide my fat bits.

  • I want to be in control of something and feel that sense of accomplishment. I need discipline and self-control in my life. I’m looking to Philippians 4:13 to give me strength-“I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.”

  • I want to wear white trousers I have and feel as great as the day I bought them in 2004, to be able to wear what I want in social events not what my body allows me to wear, and to do my activities lightly.. In short: I want to be a butterfly: socially and moving-Ly!

  • I want to lose weight so that I can get off my medications and ward off heart disease!

  • I have completed my tasks and have my notivations in sight! Thank you that was eye opening. Fit into all my clothes again, be asked out, look good in skinny jeans and be asked to dance all the time again.

  • It seems weird to me to say I want to lose weight because I want to feel good about the way I look. I’ve always thought I was confident enough that it didn’t matter but it came up a lot when I was writing my list. It’s sort of sad to think that I want it more to look good than to be healthy.

  • I too want to lose weight to feel pretty and gain some of my self confidence back. I have allowed it to be taken from me over the past years. Also, I am awaiting a PET scan to see if my breast cancer has returned. I am a two year survivor right now and I want many more years. Am also having a liver biopsy in 1 1/2 weeks an weight loss was strongly suggested. So, I guess my big reason is I don’t want to die. I am finally making changes in my life to live for me and be happy. This is just a part of it.

  • I want to loose weight so that I can regain the health that I have lost due to severe illness this past year. I want to be here for a long time…

  • Last year I became a grandma to this adorable little girl. She is my heart. Not only do I want to be around to witness all her ‘firsts’, I also want to physically able to get down on the floor, ride crazy amusement park rides, carry her when she’s tired and simply hold her while reading without feeling myself tire. Every time I eat crap, don’t exercise, I’m choosing living an unhealthy lifestyle over her. I want her to have a ‘meme’ for a long, long, looooooooooong time.

  • Checking in on day 1 of the 30 day weight loss a thon…so one of my main motivations is that I want to loose weight because I now KNOW I am worth it!

  • I want to lose weight so that I have the energy to keep up with my kids and so that I can stand in front of the mirror and not cringe at my after kids body

  • To lose this muffin top!

  • did it.

  • I want to lose weight so I can feel good about myself again. I don’t like how I have let myself get out of shape and my self esteem has suffered because of this. I don’t pay attention to myself like I should. Also at my age I want to feel healthy and look good again. All my life I have always put everyone first and know I feel it is my turn to take care of me for once. I want to change how I look at myself on the outside as well as the inside.Changing some bad habits is the beginning for me.

  • Lots of my reasons were centered around wanting to feel sexy again. Yeah, I want to chase the grandbaby around, yeah, I want to be healthier, but I really do want to have my waistline and my cheekbones back, darn it!

  • I want to loose weight so that I feel better and look better. I also want to wear a smaller size clothing this summer.

  • I want to lose weight so I’m not in pain so often and to be healthier….I want to be around a long time for my kids!

  • The motivation was easy to pick out for me. Fashion! I simply love adorable clothes and don’t want to have to dress to hide my weight. I want to get up in the morning, go to my closet and choose a cute outfit that I’m in the mood for and slip it on knowing it will skim my body like it should. Also, I want to keep the newlywed feeling alive with my new husband and it’s just more fun when you look good naked! Lastly, I’m a water lover. I love boating, swimming, the beach or just laying around the pool. Feeling good in a bathing suit is key to continued water fun! So: 1) Fashion! 2) Excitement! 3) Fun!

  • So far everything you say, I think is genius….If you can help me with this too…you ARE the best!

  • This was a great task… I can’t believe that what I thought (was saying) was motivating me really wasn’t. After going over my list and It just jumped out at me and slapped me in that face as if saying ‘Hello have been here the whole and you keep looking past me…’ I am so excited about this 30 days more then I have been in the last couple of years. πŸ™‚

  • Day 1 completed.

  • I want to fit into more of my clothes comfortably and feel good about self control.

  • I want to be a hot Mom! Hahaha πŸ™‚ I really want to just feel comfortable in my own skin and not have to worry about my shirts riding up past my muffins πŸ˜€

  • I want to lose weight because I’m tired of huffing and puffing my way around. I want to lose weight because I have a two year-old boy who outruns me.

  • To be the healthiest & fittest verion of me than I can be, oh & there is the little black dress is waiting in my wardrobe!

  • I want to be around for my kids, and I want to have the energy to enjoy them RIGHT NOW! I also would like to buy and wear a swimsuit without a skirt & feel good about it!

  • To be able to put on anything in my closet and feel comfortable walking out of the house. To be at a healthy weight and confident in my own skin.

  • I’m ready to be motivated! I’m ready to get started. I’m doing this for ME, so I can be healthy and be in good shape , so I can enjoy my grandchildren! πŸ™‚

  • My biggest reason for losing weight. Since having my double mastectomy, when I look down all I see is a big belly. I would really love to look down and just see a little bump. I am very happy being chubby, I just don’t want to be this big.

  • I was really excited about Day 1. Making a list of twenty sentence endings was really easy until I got to seventeen. So, I cleared my head for a minute and three more reasons came to me. All of my reasons are great ones! But I, like alot of other people, want to be able to walk into my closet and put on anything that’s in there and not have to take it off because it just doesn’t look or fit right. It’s like really waiting that great looking fruit salad but having to settle for just a banana. : )

  • I want to lose weight because I will look and feel more attractive, regain my health and wellbeing. Most importantly this coming month will put me more in touch with ME!

  • Checking in on Day 1! My motivation is to look great and feel strong!

  • I just want to recognize the person that looks back from my mirror.

  • I want to lose weight to feel like I have self control again and to look good in a swim suit again. After having my son 3 years ago I feel like I have lost control of everything. Weight was never really a problem before and now I find myself eating less healthy and emotional eating. When I don’t feel like I have control of a situation or don’t know what to do I go to the cookies or the chocolate.

  • I want lose weight so I can recognize myself in the mirror, so I can tuck my shirt in, and so I can look hot in a formal dress at an Air Force event with my dear husband. I could go on…

  • I finished this assignment. It was hard at first to just be really honest about the reasons I want to lose weight, but I did. I have chosen several and have them everywhere, including listed on my computer where I can see them every day. They include:
I want to be happy again, I want my daughter to not be embarrassed of me, I want to do my hobbies again, like gardening, walking and exercise, I want to not be in pain everyday, and mostly I just want to be able to go places again, have friends again, and most of all, be able to go back to work again. I want to not be depressed anymore! I have a lot more, but these are the biggest and hardest to admit. I want to look good again and feel good about myself!
To tell the truth, I feel that I have lifted some weight off my heart just admitting this.

  • I have erased myself from family photos because of my weight. I didn’t even want to stand in photos for my own Daughter’s wedding. I want to lose wait and feel confident enough to stand in the front row when pictures are taken. Instead of hiding in the back! Most of my top reasons for wanting to lose weight areere kind of vain too

  • Checking in! I was only able to list 17 things, the recurring theme being looking better (shopping for cute clothes in “normal” stores, being able to wear cute shoes), getting healthier (not on any prescription drugs and don’t want to be!), and feeling more self-confident (liking myself, being confident enough to start promoting my business more).

  • I want to be selfish this time. It is time to take care of me. I don’t want to continue to take all the medications that I do now for High blood pressure, anti depressants, and pain pills and valium to sleep. I want to walk and do things. I want to be a healthy size. I want to be around and healthy for my grandkids someday. I want to better control my fibromyalgia. A better sex life. :0) Just an all around better me.

  • Checking in day 1. That was eye opening! I want to do this to prove to myself and everyone that I can do anything!

  • I want to lose weight to make a number of things in my life easier – yoga, riding my bicycle. I also want to fit into all of the really cute clothes hanging out in the back of my closet. Most of all, I want to not cringe when I see myself in photographs.

  • I struggle with fibromyalgia, and I know that struggle is always less when I am healthy. I want to have the energy to take care of my kids, be there for the special moments in their lives, and not be held back by health and fatigue.

  • We had our third baby girl last August. I still have some baby weight to lose. I want to lose it in time for mine and my husband’s “parents’ only” trip this Summer.

  • So I’ve completed today’s task and as I wrote many reasons why I wanted to lose weight, the common theme was that I wanted to feel pretty! I do not want to look at myself in disgust when I look at myself in the mirror (my stomach especially)! Of course I want to be healthy and I want more energy, but overall, I want to feel pretty and be happy again!

  • Breast cancer changed my world in 2011. I am looking forward to health and vitality in 2012. And my motivation is to use the tool of the 32-Day Weight Loss-athon to help me achieve renewing health.

  • I am checking in. I want to lose weight because I wouldlike to feel better about myself and be a better role model for my kids

  • I want to be strong and have adventures — do things (rock climbing, rafting, caving, etc.) I’m too afraid to do with my current health.

  • I am motivated to do this so I can be the best me I can be. I want to feel confident & happy about the way I look & feel.

  • Yes, it is interesting to find out my true motivations for wanting to lose weight! And very enlightening. And yes, very motivating!

  • Day one tasks done & I have also walked 4kilometers (aprox 2 miles) hope I can keep it up for the next 29 days.

  • I want to loose weight so I can keep up with the daycare children better without be winded.

  • I want to lose weight so I can wear designer clothes and be taken seriously in the fashion industry. I want more energy and a healthy long life so I can achieve amazing things and have lots of fun. I want my partner to be proud of me.

  • I want to lose weight because I know I will feel better and as a child of God I need to care for my body, mind and spirit.

  • hmmm…committed, but really hoping this makes a difference. I like how I look and feel when I am thin.

  • I want to lose weight because I want to have more energy and be happier πŸ™‚

  • Of course I want to look & feel healthier but for me this is about moving my life forward in a positive way. I’m excited about all the other good things that will follow if I take this first step and make my health & well-being a priority.

  • I want to lose weight to get rid of my diabetes 2 and live a long time. I finally found the most wonderful man and want to spend our lives feeling healthy and energetic. I am tired of being tired. I also want to look better and not so frumpy.

  • My husband used to call me beautiful all the time, and he doesn’t any more. I want to lose weight to feel “beautiful” again. I have some health issues that are stemming from the weight I now carry, so it’s that too. Plus it’s hard for me to hang out with many of our friends because they are still thin or have reached their goals and are thin again. It’s embarrassing to realize that my arms are twice as big as theirs, or my muffin top is spilling over my not so tight pants.
I want to stop feeling sick and embarrassed, and feel beautiful again.

  • I want to lose weight because I want to feel pretty and not feel like others are judging me and my weight. I want to be able to buy any cute clothes I find without worrying that they have a big enough size or that it won’t look good on me.

  • I want to lose weight because I want to feel attractive to my husband, I want feel healthy and strong, and I want the person I see myself as (the one before the last three kids) to be the person I see in pictures and the mirror.

  • I want to get back to a healthy weight (post baby) IN ORDER TO fit into nice clothes and love how I look/feel in them.

  • I want to feel good about myself again. I want to know that I look good in my clothes again and that I fit into the jeans that have been in my closet for the last 5 years. Overall, I just really want my self-confidence back.

  • I have completed this task. I too want to FEEL pretty. I want my clothes to fit again. I want more energy.

  • I want to lose weight to have more confidence and lose the pregnant looking belly!

  • I want my clothes to fit and have more energy. I want to fell pretty as well

  • I want to be the best me I can be…have more energy…avoid diabetes and clogged arteries (my brother and all of my cousins had maturity onset diabetes, and both my parents died of heart attacks in their 76th year!)

  • Day 1 completed. You were right – I started with the reasons I thought I wanted to lose weight ie be healthy and fit, but ended up with wanting to look great and wanting to feel light enough so I can do everything I want to do. I now have the post-it notes all over the place πŸ™‚

  • I think I lost myself somewhere along the way while raising kids, putting in long hours at work and taking care of my husband and his health issues. I don’t even recognize the person in the mirror anymore. 10 minutes a day is do-able and a great start to becoming my own caregiver.

  • Achieving a healthy lifestyle to me means feeling a confidence in myself and having enough energy to enjoy the things I want to do.

  • I want to look good again.

  • Thank you…I am so loooking forward to this.I am ready….

  • Journal done and most of my reasons…are remarkably similar to one another…and most have to do with appearance…out to buy post its (as well as some groceries).

  • I have battled my weight since I graduated from high school in 1976…..I believe that my battles stemmed from one comment ” Why aren’t you skinny like those girls?” That comment was from a then boyfriend… mind you I was 5’11 at that time and weighed a whopping 155#! And I thought that I was FAT! For me, it is mind over matter… and well, I matter! While I don’t really wish to be 155# I do wish to lose this extra weight that I have gained from a feeling of no self worth… just from a simple comment like that. I am in charge of my own destiny…. I will be healthier and I will feel comfortable in my own body……over the past 2 years, I have lost and kept off 90#. While I have taken breaks along the way from my weight loss journey, I am maintaining that loss….. I have since re-found my motivation to lose the remaining weight. Here’s to the journey that we ALL have decided to partake in…. here’s to our health and happiness. May you find your real motivation and never give up on your real goal…which should be finding yourself.

  • Here are my reasons (just the top ones): to not jiggle when I run. to have greater flexibility. to lower cholesterol naturally, vanity vanity to have a thinner face adn finally, to go into my 60’s at a healthy weight….I have one year.

  • The reason why I want to lose weight is to be able to shop for clothes and have fun, and to be able to be in shape. I am celebrating my 50 th birthday in June and this is my new beginning:) I have lost 15 pounds so far and I am looking forward to lose the next 10 pounds with encouragement:)

  • This was a good exercise. I didn’t think I could come up with 20, but I did. I just spent the weekend at Yosemite with my family and there were things I couldn’t do because of the way I feel. I want to be able to participate in those kinds of things in the future.

  • For all the right reasons to want to lose weight, avoiding my family’s health issues, etc., they haven’t worked for me. Vain girl that I am, I want my pretty legs back. I won’t wear shorts or shorter skirts, and haven’t for several years now, because I hate the way they look. And I remember the way they were.

  • Done! πŸ™‚ I guess I’ve been in denial for years that this has been my TRUE motivation for losing weight — I want to have a picture of myself in a bikini! πŸ™‚

Ohh.. I hope to lose weight on this program.. Yay!

  • Thank you for keeping me accountable πŸ™‚ It’s only day one and I was already thinking up excuses for skipping today’s task. Remembering the commitment I made, I decided to go for it. I am so glad I did! I have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 13. Living a healthier lifestyle sets a better example for my children and means a healthier, longer life for me. The years slip by too quickly to keep up my unhealthy habits!

  • I, like so many others, feel a little vain and selfish, but it’s time to be honest…I want to feel like I’m pretty! I want to walk feeling confident that I look good. The other reason I want to lose weight is to feel that I can actually accomplish something…I don’t have a high belief in myself and/or my talents and abilities, and I’d love to be able to say I’ve done something amazing!

  • To all who have posted I’ve responded to several and I’m hearing the same things. Confidence; weight loss and a healthier you. These are very good goals. Remember, we are all beautiful regardless of how we look. You are striving for a better you which will come in time. Keep up the good work and keep posting every day to make yourself accountable. Good Luck to everyone.

  • My daughter is in Christian Character Clubs and the character they are working on is self-control-God helping me. I truly believe I need much more of this, so I can be healthy to be the right kind of mom and wife. Obviously I want to look great too. I’m ready for lasting change!

  • ok.. got a late start on Day 1 but completed it. Wasn’t as hard as I thought… probably because there are way too many reasons for me to lose weight. Right now, the number one reason is health related, as in ‘not just postponing but eliminating the need for leg surgery’.

  • As I read over the examples I was really struck by the fact that one really jumped out at me that I had never thought before…and I know that it was my REAL reason for wanting this…”I want to have a quiet and secure confidence about myself…” It hit me like big spot light to the face! That is what I’ve been wanting and craving!

  • Motivation – don’t want to hate myself in pictures of me and my girls. My oldest is getting married in October and I want to look fabulous for the wedding. I also have 2 younger sisters who are size 2 at 40+ years old and I am tired of being the “fat” sister. 90 lbs is a big goal but hey, that’s only 10 lbs 9 times, right?

  • I’ve been working on this for 9 months now (weight loss and eating better) and my #1 motivator is my health- keeping my blood sugar regulated and my cholesterol in a normal range. πŸ™‚ Of course like others said, fitting nicely in clothes isn’t so bad either! πŸ™‚

  • I want to lose weight because… I want to be the best woman I can be for God because He first loved me and for my family because I love them so very much. I also do NOT want to be fat and forty.

  • I was surprised at how quickly I came up with my list. I want to look and feel younger for myself and for my husband and I want to wear some cute clothes that have been hanging in my closet for a couple of years. In short, I miss the before-I-had-kids me.

  • I want to look better naked. And feel better about being naked. My hubby says I look great already, but I don’t think so, and I am going to change it! I know we tend to be our own worst critics, but so be it. If it gets me where I want to be, I’m there!

  • Just writing down on paper why I wanted to lose weight has made me feel better.

  • I discovered what I already suspected, the vain part of me, which is the smallest part of me, is actually the strongest part of me. I want to be sexier, wear sexier clothes and look skinnier in photos, sick of being the “fat” sister again.

  • My two things is that I want to be healthier ( combat depression and also manage cholesterol/heart health) AND I want to fit into a size 12 again so I can wear pretty dresses. I drew an apple and a dress with 12 on it on my bedroom and bathroom mirror and my fridge ( with erasable texta pen) – my housemates are going to be puzzled about the drawings on fridge and bathroom mirror but I hope they can hold me accountable and encourage me too.

  • Day 1 tasks are done and as others have commented; I do believe this is a great way to start. I was both a bit surprised at some of what just came out as I wrote and also a bit saddened to know how much I let my weight truly weigh me down. I want to go out and have that self confidence boost in my step!

  • I want to lose weight so I feel good about myself again. Feeling good about myself means I’m more confident, which opens up many more avenues. Vanity reason, yes, but it’s a real motivator.

  • My self image is so tied to my overall happiness. I want to remove this barrier to my happiness. Fat = Failure in my mind. Sure, it would help to work on the mental part, too, but being in control of the physical would be a huge leap toward my overall happiness.

  • Wow! I was really surprised at how difficult I found it to come up with 20…found it to be a very interesting exercise. Fit into my almost new size 12 jeans. Have a healthier & energetic life. Not see the fat lumpy bits anymore when I dare to look in the mirror ;P.

  • I want to lose weight becuase it will help me save money and increase my confidence – I will fit into my too small jeans and my winter coat will button up easily. I’m looking forward to that feeling of achievement after completing each task this month,.

  • I’m 70 yrs. old but in good health- have that matronly look and am motivated to have more energy and have my cloths fit better, using the 32-Day Wt. Lossathon.

  • I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror without getting depressed.

  • I want to be a good role model for my daughter and I want to have more energy. Mostly I want to feel great in my clothes and be confident showing my body parts that I often feel compelled to cover up.

  • My group will be participating but we meet weekly on Fridays. We are looking forward to Michele’s wonderful #1 Weight Loss-athon. This first one is great.

  • I want to have more energy, to be able to play with my kids more, and to just feel better in general.

  • I want a flat tummy again and I want smaller thighs so I can feel good in shorts and short skirts. I’ve got the muscle underneath the fat.

  • I want to wear nice summer clothes and feel confident in them.

  • I want to look as good as my marine and be just as confident. I want to be hour and in shape. It feels good and somewhat selfish to admit that! :-/

  • I want to lose weight so I will be able to wear a swimsuit again without cringing.. and to be more healthy of course.

  • I want to lose weight to not feel so fatigued at the end of the day. To be able to keep up with my daughter and to be around to see her grow up.

  • It wasn’t hard to get 20 reason’s picking the real ones took abit more thought here is to a successful month.

  • I want to feel attractive again. Post-its are up.

  • I need to lose this weight before going back to the Dr.I don’t want more heart work done.

  • I want to feel better, have less pain and discomfort, and enjoy life with my family. I want to be able to enjoy the grandson that is coming into our life in a few months.

  • This was an interesting mission. Made me think a lot.

  • I want to lose weight so I can sit on the floor at playgroup with the kids I care for!

  • I want to feel sexy and confident.

  • My motivation is to look better and not be controlled any longer by this!

  • Day 1 done! Motivational notes posted. Ready for day 2.

  • Day One mission is complete. Check.

  • Mine is simple, I want to lose weight so I am not always the heaviest person in the room

  • So that I can run trails again and have that sense of freedom.

  • I want to lose weight because I want to look good! And I make no apologies for that!

  • I’m not going to share my main reasons. Sorry guys. Now THAT is selfish. Not anything you all posted about. One of them though is that people are starving everyday and it’s selfish of me to be the product of such gluttony. I’ll at least feel better about myself, and I’ll have money to donate when I don’t buy so much chips, chocolate, and other junk.

  • starting late, but finally starting! I want to stop feeling depressed about myself and my size.

  • To feel pretty and confident again and have my (lost) energy back, so I wouldn’t feel as tired as I always feel.

  • A year ago I was suffering from early signs of PPD. In starting my medication, my appetite was off for a few weeks, and I was nauseous a lot. I know that it was not healthy weight loss, but I loved how I looked when that weight was gone. Once I got used to my meds, the weight all came back, plus a few more pounds. I have had two c-sections and I am disgusted by how my waistline looks. I would love to be able to look in the mirror when I am naked and like what I see.

  • I want to lose weight because I want to feel pretty again. I want to not be in pain all the time with my bad back. I want to be able to play with my kids all day and still have the energy to get my work done too.

  • So bummed to be getting to this so late. DH had an accident and I’ve been at the hospital (five hours away from home) every day. Hoping we’ll be able to get out by Friday! Today is the first day I’ve been on the computer.

BUT, I was so excited to start the program that I actually already did this first step. I had a hard time with this task because every reason I came up with was so superficial. So my strongest reasons for wanting to lose weight have always made me feel guilty so they are actual DE-motivators! This was an eye opening exercise for me.

So the motivation factor I am using instead is: I want to lose weight because I want be able to dress quickly and easily each morning. (Right now it takes me hours to choose something to wear because it’s either uncomfortable or it doesn’t flatter me.)

  • Getting to 20 reasons was really hard. I think my reasons are pretty basic. I don’t want to look at pictures and hate what I see any more. I also want to be active again, I miss all the things I used to do without worrying that my weight would stop me from enjoying it. I want to be able to dress up and go out with my sister and not worry that I am an embarrassment to her. I don’t want to get sick again.

  • This weekend we were caught off gaurd with my son breaking his arm. With all the commotion, I forgot about this. So I am starting today and try to catch up over the next couple of days.

  • As much as I’d love to feel good in skimpy shorts and a tank top, I’m mostly worried about my health. I’m afraid of what the future holds if I don’t start a more healthly lifestyle. Already since I’ve turned 40, my cholesterol is suddenly high and I’m not as active as I used to be. I belive that losing weight with diet and exercise will make me feel better physically and mentally. – But how to get motivated is a whole different ballgame.

  • I am ready for some motivation! I am committed to work hard, to feel better, and Lord willing, look better. My 30th wedding anniversary is coming up in June…I would love to be well on my way to good health, by then! ? : ).

  • Just finished my task! I got me a pretty new journal and pen SPECIFICALLY for this to help me be more motivated to keep the journal going. I am doing WW too so I am hoping that these new tools will keep me motivated logging too πŸ˜€

    – My big motivations are.

    * to keep from heart disease (runs in the family); diabetes; or high blood pressure.

    * to feel confidence again and more outgoing….
    * to feel sexy and improve my sex life with my husband.

    * My biggest one… to hopefully have a baby one day.

Good luck everyone, I know we can do it… we have the tools, we have the support… we just need to DO IT!

Thank you Michele for helping us get started again.

  • Got mine done! Late in the day, but it’s done. Like many of you, I want to lose weight for various ‘look good in the mirror’ type reasons, but I have found that my main reason other than health and running after my children, is to be taken more seriously as an athlete. I notice the younger kids don’t take me seriously in our gym until I show them that I can outlift them. They look at me and think I’m just a fluffy mom playing at lifting and it shows in the way some of them blow off my advice. I just want to look like the athlete I am on the inside, I guess.

  • 2 REASONS: 1.Want to wear pretty clothing’s that are not so long covering my broad Indian childbearing hips and a belly that has stayed on after having 2 kids.2.Make the never achieved ideal weight for my body type and height… (striving since childhood). Hmm.. cant bring myself to posting it everywhere… Somehow I want to keep it to myself and not let everyone in the house know about this.. hmm..is it the question:Will I lose? or wanting to surprise family when they see me slimmer? My first dilemma….on day 1 already.

  • I found 3 themes through my exercise of why I want to loose weight:
    1. as a reflection that I am present in my life – making good decisions and handling the pressures/emotions of life healthy.
    2. to feel feminine – to be excited to shop and dress in the morning with flare and colour.
    3. to feel comfortable in my body – to not feel excess skin which I want to get away from.
im looking forward to what unfolds throughout the month ;-)).

  • Late, but in it now. I want to lose the weight to have confidence in myself. To feel better and not winded, light headed and tired all the time.

  • This was actually quite depressing to do! I’m normally quite happy about my life and how I look, but actually sitting down and questioning it meant I had to face some not-so-pleasant-thoughts.

It basically boils down to: vanity and health (the 2 of them swap priorities so I’m claiming both of them!). I don’t want to always be “the fat one”. Sure, I don’t mind being bigger than others, but I could certainly benefit with losing a couple of stone.

  • I want to lose weight to feel better physically and to feel better about myself emotionally/spiritually. I’m tired of struggling with my weight and I know the longer this goes on, the greater toll it is going to take on my health as I age (I’m 50, so far with no major health problems, but know that I’m playing with fire if I let this continue). The vain part of me wants to get my body back so I can wear fun and youthful clothes again. This weight has weighed me down in so many other areas of my life and I’m so tired of dealing with it -it’s just time to do something.

  • I want to lose weight because I am tired of being fat. I want to walk past a mirror or my reflection and see the person I feel I am on the inside. I also want to live a long healthy life and set an example for my children. I want them to see they can accomplish anything in life and achieve all of their goals even if they’ve failed a time or two. If you keep trying and never give up! Oh yeah…..this muffin top and big belly is not cute. πŸ˜‰ lol

  • Here are my main 4 reasons:
    1. I want to feel confident in my body.
    2. I want to fit into my wardrobe of pretty clothes I can no longer wear.
    3. I want to t look good naked/ in a bikini.
    4. I want to feel pretty.
I made some post-its for myself and have a picture of what I looked like just a couple years ago that I am going to put in my bathroom… plus I think I’ll put one in my purse πŸ™‚

I appreciate today’s activity… I think it was good for all of us to realize what all of us REALLY WANTED. πŸ™‚

  • Reading some of the other posts, and what I wrote myself, I see the word ‘selfish’ come up a lot. What an obstacle! No wonder we can’t lose the weight if we feel like doing so is, or that our reasons are somehow ‘selfish’.
A lot of my sentences were very negative. Yes, I want to feel pretty, and sexy, and young….but I also want to stop feeling ashamed and depressed and self-hatred.
Okay, we’ve got a big job ahead of us Ladies (& Gentlemen). Let’s do this thing!

  • So after reading through my list, the biggest reasons I have are to be able to wear all the cute skinny clothes I have in my closet. I love the way I feel and look in them. And the second reason is to be able to look good in pictures again. I used to love having pictures taken. Now I avoid it like the plague and delete any pictures that I think I look fat in. There are hardly any recent pictures of me. I so want to be able to take great pictures again and not worry that I am going to look awful in them.

  • I want to lose weight so that I am not the FAT girl at the beach…. I know, I know, I am supposed to say so that I am healthy, live longer, good role model for my kids, lower my bp, but in reality…. I am tired and sad that I am the FAT girl at the beach every summer. I’m embarrassed and shamed that I have let my weight explode…. I am tired of being self conscious… I want to look and feel pretty again.

  • I’ve completed day 1. I thought 20 reasons was stretching, but it helped me to see some things. I am excited about day 2. I have been losing weight through keeping a food journal. I have enjoyed fitting into some clothes better, and it feels good. I have plateaued though. This, I hope, will un-stuck me.

  • I’m supposed to want to do it for my health, and that’s part of it. But the main reason is probably more selfish. The clock is ticking and if I ever want to feel pretty I’m running out of time to keep ahead of all the wrinkles.

  • I don’t actually need to lose weight, so I decided to go with the “I want to be healthier because…” sentence stem. Came up with sooo many reasons for this, it was difficult to choose a top one! Probably my main reasons are that I want to feel strong and fit and capable of doing anything, I want to sleep better at night and have more energy during the day, and I’m planning to run in a 10km race in September so I need to get a fair bit healthier in preparation for that! πŸ™‚

  • Made it through Day one. My answers were pretty much as I expected..smaller clothes, less stress and anxiety. I also put down that I want to start enjoying food again instead of just constantly shoving food into my mouth.

  • I want to lose weight to get my life back. I’m tired of feeling cruddy everyday with little to no energy which I know is due to the extra weight and lack of exercise. I have 4 beautiful kids and I’m missing so much b/c I can’t keep up. Having a flatter stomach is definitely a perk ;).

  • I want to get rid of the baby belly so I don’t cringe when I look in the mirror anymore and be fit enough to hike up the hills at the farm in the Warrumbungle Mountains. I’m not really overweight (only about 5kg over ideal) so everybody refers to me as being skinny when I’m not really. I just know how to dress to hide the mess! I don’t want to have to do that anymore. Oh, to have a waist again and wear tailored outfits!

I have PCOS and been overweight all my life and the docs say it will be almost impossible for me to have a baby at this size. • My Grandson just told me he lost 35 pounds. I was hoping he would for his health. I love him no matter what size he is but I’m so glad he was motivated on his own to lose weight & get healthy. Health is my motivation too. I’m 70 & taking no meds. Losing 30 pounds would definately improve my chances for a healthy future.

  • I had lost weight last year. I looked good, and felt great! Then I had to have ACL reconstruction surgery on my knee. I gained back all the weight I lost. I have really struggled to get back my strength. It has been depressing. It’s time to suck it up and get back in the game! I want to feel good about myself again.

  • I have 2 main reasons for wanting to lose weight. I lost 50 pounds 2 1/2 years ago and have slowly gained almost all of it back. I want to lose the weight and keep it off so I 1) can be a healthy role model for my daughters and 2) can feel pretty again (it’s vain but honest).

  • I was surprised but the most exiting answer was: IΒ΄ m so courious how it will feel and look – with less weight. Will there l be a huge difference in how I feel, how I act, how I go through my life? Will there be more energy and can I handle it?

  • In my case, it sounds selfish as well but I need to be honest with you all and myself. Weight loss has always been the trigger to start a series of steps that make me happy.
    Weight loss makes me:
    1. Feel lighter and more comfortable every morning.
    2. Want to renew my wardrobe.
    3. Look myself at me in the mirror and smile.
    4. Feel better about myself and with others.
    5. Get happily involved with my job.
    6. Get happily involved with my hobbies, leisure…
    7. Accept the compliments of the people.
    8. Want to repeat the above steps one day at a time.
Regards to you all from Mexico!
