Day 1: Find Your Real (Not Pretend) Motivation | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon

01
Apr
Welcome to Day 1 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon! Let the fun begin.
We only have 10 minutes, so Iām going to get straight to todayās action task. This task will provide fuel to fire your motivation for the month ahead. I suggest you read through the steps first, then take 10 minutes to work through the steps.
And because we only have 10 minutes, you need to move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Just throw yourself in. Ready?
What You Need:
- 52 Weight Loss Missions sample
- Pen
- Paper
- Several post-its.
Step 1
Remember the 52 Weight Loss Missions sample you downloaded? If you havenāt already, please read pages 6, 7 and the top of page 8.
These pages talk about your genuine, fire-in-the-belly motivation for losing weight. Not why other people want you to lose weight. Not why you think you should lose weight. But the desire deep inside you. This is what we want to uncover.
Step 2
Write at least 20 endings to the sentence below. Write fast. Donāt censor yourself. Let your pen go where your critical, analytical mind might not let you.
I want to lose weight becauseā¦
Step 3
Now read back over your answers and pick one or to two that excite you.
Donāt be surprised if they arenāt the reasons youāve been giving yourself for losing weight. If youāve struggled to lose weight, then thereās a good chance your supposed reasons are not very powerful.
What youāve just uncovered is a powerhouse of motivation. Letās make sure we use itā¦
Step 4
Write the exciting reason(s) from Step 3 on some post-its, and put them in several places youāll see them regularly, eg:
- On your bathroom mirror
- In your wallet
- In your diary
- On your computer
- On the fridge door.
Let these reminders of your real motivation drive you over the next month.
Check in!
And youāre done! Be sure to leave your comment below to check in and stay accountable.
See you back here tomorrow.
Thank you for keeping me accountable
Itās only day one and I was already thinking up excuses for skipping todayās task. Remembering the commitment I made, I decided to go for it. I am so glad I did! I have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 13. Living a healthier lifestyle sets a better example for my children and means a healthier, longer life for me. The years slip by too quickly to keep up my unhealthy habits!
Done!
I guess Iāve been in denial for years that this has been my TRUE motivation for losing weight ā I want to have a picture of myself in a bikini!
Ohh.. I hope to lose weight on this program.. Yay!
For all the right reasons to want to lose weight, avoiding my familyās health issues, etc., they havenāt worked for me. Vain girl that I am, I want my pretty legs back. I wonāt wear shorts or shorter skirts, and havenāt for several years now, because I hate the way they look. And I remember the way they were.
This was a good exercise. I didnāt think I could come up with 20, but I did. I just spent the weekend at Yosemite with my family and there were things I couldnāt do because of the way I feel. I want to be able to participate in those kinds of things in the future.
The reason why I want to lose weight is to be able to shop for clothes and have fun, and to be able to be in shape. I am celebrating my 50 th birthday in June and this is my new beginning:) I have lost 15 pounds so far and I am looking forward to lose the next 10 pounds with encouragement:)
Here are my reasons (just the top ones): to not jiggle when I run. to have greater flexibility. to lower cholesterol naturally, vanity vanity to have a thinner face adn finally, to go into my 60ās at a healthy weightā¦.I have one year.
I have battled my weight since I graduated from high school in 1976ā¦..I believe that my battles stemmed from one comment ā Why arenāt you skinny like those girls?ā That comment was from a then boyfriend⦠mind you I was 5ā11 at that time and weighed a whopping 155#! And I thought that I was FAT! For me, it is mind over matter⦠and well, I matter! While I donāt really wish to be 155# I do wish to lose this extra weight that I have gained from a feeling of no self worth⦠just from a simple comment like that. I am in charge of my own destinyā¦. I will be healthier and I will feel comfortable in my own bodyā¦ā¦over the past 2 years, I have lost and kept off 90#. While I have taken breaks along the way from my weight loss journey, I am maintaining that lossā¦.. I have since re-found my motivation to lose the remaining weight. Hereās to the journey that we ALL have decided to partake inā¦. hereās to our health and happiness. May you find your real motivation and never give up on your real goalā¦which should be finding yourself.
Journal done and most of my reasonsā¦are remarkably similar to one anotherā¦and most have to do with appearanceā¦out to buy post its (as well as some groceries).
Thank youā¦I am so loooking forward to this.I am readyā¦.
I want to look good again.
Achieving a healthy lifestyle to me means feeling a confidence in myself and having enough energy to enjoy the things I want to do.
I think I lost myself somewhere along the way while raising kids, putting in long hours at work and taking care of my husband and his health issues. I donāt even recognize the person in the mirror anymore. 10 minutes a day is do-able and a great start to becoming my own caregiver.
Day 1 completed. You were right ā I started with the reasons I thought I wanted to lose weight ie be healthy and fit, but ended up with wanting to look great and wanting to feel light enough so I can do everything I want to do. I now have the post-it notes all over the place
I want to be the best me I can beā¦have more energyā¦avoid diabetes and clogged arteries (my brother and all of my cousins had maturity onset diabetes, and both my parents died of heart attacks in their 76th year!)
I want my clothes to fit and have more energy. I want to fell pretty as well
I want to lose weight to have more confidence and lose the pregnant looking belly!
I have completed this task. I too want to FEEL pretty. I want my clothes to fit again. I want more energy.
I want to feel good about myself again. I want to know that I look good in my clothes again and that I fit into the jeans that have been in my closet for the last 5 years. Overall, I just really want my self-confidence back.
I want to get back to a healthy weight (post baby) IN ORDER TO fit into nice clothes and love how I look/feel in them.
I want to lose weight because I want to feel attractive to my husband, I want feel healthy and strong, and I want the person I see myself as (the one before the last three kids) to be the person I see in pictures and the mirror.
