Day 2: Move Your Body And Reframe The Sweat | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon

Welcome to Day 2 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon! Today we get physical.

In future tasks we’ll tackle a heap of barriers to exercise – some organizational, some psychological, some completely bogus – but today we’ll just pick ourselves up and get going.

I suggest you read through the steps first, then take 10 minutes to move it, move it.

We only have 10 minutes, so you need to move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Just throw yourself in. Ready?

What You Need:

  • Comfortable clothes
  • Comfortable shoes
  • An umbrella if it’s raining
  • Warm clothes if it’s cold
  • An iPod with some motivating tunes cued up (optional).

Note: Check The (Regular-Sized) Small Print

Step 1

We’re going to go for a walk today.

You don’t have to walk fast. You don’t have to walk for long. You don’t have to find a scenic path. You just have to keep your legs moving and your arms swinging for 10 minutes. Around the block or up and down your street is fine (don’t forget to wave to Mr Grumplestein there on his porch).

If you’d prefer an alternative, choose one of these:

  • Use a piece of exercise equipment you have at home, such as an exercise bike, skipping rope or mini trampoline, for 10 minutes
  • Do a little circuit: 1 minute of running on the spot, 1 minute of walking on the spot, 1 minute of jumping jacks, repeat 3 times and finish with 20 sit-ups
  • Put on a high-energy playlist and dance your heart out for 10 minutes.

If you feel resistance welling up, go read one of your post-its from Day 1.

Step 2

Accept that you will probably sweat.

I know some people hate the idea of sweating, so let’s reframe it from icky to positive.

Instead of thinking of sweat as something gross, uncomfortable or unpleasant, think of it as melting fat. When you feel yourself starting to perspire, visualize that pesky poundage liquefying and oozing out of you. How awesome! Just what you want.

Step 3

Tell your family you’ll be back in 10, grab your keys or close the door to the room you’ll be in, and off you go.

Check in!

And you’re done! How does that feel?

My son is playing baseball and his first game is this week, so I went outside and helped him practice the accuracy of his throws. I was running all over getting balls thrown over my head. It felt good. The hard part was just getting myself out there.

OK, I’m a day late posting but I was exhausted! 20 min on treadmill, 20 min yoga/pilates, and one hour of mowing lawn. NOT a usual day, but our house is showing and the weeds loved the rain we got:-)

I just finished my 10 mins of movement. It was actually more than 10 minutes. I walked aroung my neighborhood while my daughter rode her bike for 35 minutes but it equated to 2.24 miles. I used an app on my phone called RunKeeper that uses a GPS to track miles and gives an estimate of the amount of calories burned!

Already took my regular weekly walk with friends before I read today’s task. So I grabbed my husband & moved the Treadmill out of the garage & into my workshop, plugged it in and walked another 10 minutes. TA DA! Love the idea of sweat being melting fat!

I usually go to the gym 2-5 times a week with friends who I feel bad letting down. Today is 25 minutes on the elliptical. I’m skipping the Max Fit class because I pulled a back muscle yesterday and think the class would kill me. 😉 I’d definitely end up out of commission for a couple of days so I’m doing the easier workout. Not that it’s making me lose any weight. Sigh. I’m stuck. But at least I can run up the stairs now without gasping for breath.

I wasn’t able to take a walk (by the time I got home it was too dark) however I did make sure to get moving. Dancing while prepping dinner for the week makes it go by so much quicker :-). (I know I am a little late to post this…i.e.next day!)

By the way, I love the idea of changing how you think of sweat. I’ve never considered thinking of it as melting fat, I usually just imagine that all the toxins/bad stuff in my body and mind are dripping away! But that definitely sounds like a good option 🙂

I am tying to incorporate exercise into my daily routine, so decided to ride my bike to school with my son this morning, he rides everyday, it was 0C out there, there was still frost on the grass, but I made it, 40 minutes in total!

So great today was ‘mainly music’ at our Church. I help lead 2 sessions so spent 2 30 minute sessions moving almost constantly! Pre-school songs can be so bouncy and energetic! Clapping, dancing, moving, jumping and hopping. Yes, I can get a bit sweaty. Now, to pick my walking route for tomorrow…..

On the way home from work I had to walk to the train station. It took me 10 minutes and because I picked up the pace and walked quicker than normal, I managed to catch the earlier train and therefore got home sooner to see my little one’s excited face! It’s made me determined to catch that train each day. Looks like I’ll be walking a fast pace each day from now on.
