Day 6: Drink Water, Lose Weight | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon
06
Apr
Time for Day 6 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon.
Read the steps first, then take 10 minutes to complete them.
Move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Ready?
What You Need:
- Glass
- Bottle
- Water.
Step 1
First, let’s get the facts. We’ve all heard that drinking water helps weight loss, but is it really true?
The answer, according to scientific research, is yep!
It seems that good old H2O can help with weight loss by:
- Helping you to eat less and/or
- Affecting your metabolism.
And you don’t have to go crazy: a couple of glasses before meals is a good start.
But remember, it’s not what you know, it’s what you do. Just deciding to drink more water is easy – turning it into a habit is the tricky part.
Step 2
So let’s look for ways to make water drinking easy and habitual.
For instance, you could adopt any or several of these habits:
- Drink 2 glasses of water on waking – keep a glass and bottle by your bed as a reminder
- Fill a 2-litre bottle of water at the start of the day and aim to empty it by the end
- When offered a drink, ask for water
- Keep a bottle and glass of water on your desk as you work, so it’s easy to sip any time
- Keep a bottle and glass of water on the coffee table when you’re reading or watching TV, so it’s easy to sip any time
- Buy yourself an attractive water bottle or glass so you enjoy drinking more
- Associate meals with water – have a drink before you sit down to eat.
Step 3
Of course, in this program we never make a decision without taking some sort of action to help change the behavior.
So choose something you can do now to help set your new water-drinking behavior.
For example:
- Put a glass and bottle of water by your bed, desk or coffee table
- Fill a 2-litre bottle of water for today’s drinking
- Go buy yourself an cute water bottle and/or glass
- Put a glass on top of your plates as a reminder to drink before or with meals.

See you tomorrow!
I drink water when I exercise, before bedtime (don’t ask my why – I’m thirsty then) and that’s pretty much it. I have to work at drinking more. I like the idea of a 2l bottle that needs emptying each day, so I’ll work on that.
I do so well at this at work because we have an ice maker and really good water, but at home I fail miserably, but I am putting up post-it notes to remind me and buying a water filter!

Loved the idea to ask for water whenever offered something to drink. Buying some lemons to make drinking the clear stuff more appetizing 🙂

Each morning, I fill one of those giant translucent plastic mugs from an amusement park – the kind that holds 64 oz – and drink the whole thing over the course of the day, plus I drink a full glass of water with my morning meds.

Finally, something that comes easy to me! I was a diet coke drinker for about 25 years. I quit when I was diagnosed. I carry a water bottle around with me everywhere; it is a great reminder!
Okay, this is one I can do! (A little more easily, at least) I’m excited, and I even have a cute water bottle. It’s amazing how much more desirable water is when you have a cute cup or bottle!

I’ll add drinking a glass before every meal. I have a desk job so I created a reminder on my computer to pop up that says “water” to remind me to drink, then I “snooze” it for an hr. & just keep doing the same all day. I need to carry it more with me when I’m not at work.

Thanks. This is really simple and helpful. I’ve really struggled with drinking water, so last year, I made every Wednesday..”Water Wednesday”. We only drink water all day. That has helped all of us.

I designated my favorite large Tervis cup for water. The cute flower on the cup just makes me want to drink whatever is in it.

I have a 32 oz container that I fill with water for my desk at work and then I get a cup of ice and keep filling from there. I just need to work on drinking more when I get home, that’s the tricky part.
I have a pretty cup with a straw I will use. I drank so much water today. I’ll do my best to keep it going. I have to drink something since I gave up my “extra” coffee, water it is!
