Day 6: Drink Water, Lose Weight | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon
06
Apr
Time for Day 6 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon.
Read the steps first, then take 10 minutes to complete them.
Move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Ready?
What You Need:
- Glass
- Bottle
- Water.
Step 1
First, let’s get the facts. We’ve all heard that drinking water helps weight loss, but is it really true?
The answer, according to scientific research, is yep!
It seems that good old H2O can help with weight loss by:
- Helping you to eat less and/or
- Affecting your metabolism.
And you don’t have to go crazy: a couple of glasses before meals is a good start.
But remember, it’s not what you know, it’s what you do. Just deciding to drink more water is easy – turning it into a habit is the tricky part.
Step 2
So let’s look for ways to make water drinking easy and habitual.
For instance, you could adopt any or several of these habits:
- Drink 2 glasses of water on waking – keep a glass and bottle by your bed as a reminder
- Fill a 2-litre bottle of water at the start of the day and aim to empty it by the end
- When offered a drink, ask for water
- Keep a bottle and glass of water on your desk as you work, so it’s easy to sip any time
- Keep a bottle and glass of water on the coffee table when you’re reading or watching TV, so it’s easy to sip any time
- Buy yourself an attractive water bottle or glass so you enjoy drinking more
- Associate meals with water – have a drink before you sit down to eat.
Step 3
Of course, in this program we never make a decision without taking some sort of action to help change the behavior.
So choose something you can do now to help set your new water-drinking behavior.
For example:
- Put a glass and bottle of water by your bed, desk or coffee table
- Fill a 2-litre bottle of water for today’s drinking
- Go buy yourself an cute water bottle and/or glass
- Put a glass on top of your plates as a reminder to drink before or with meals.

Water has always been my drink of choice. I may not always get 8 glasses in but I average 6 glasses per day. Herbal and green teas are my morning wake up and then it’s all water throughout the day.
Yay I love the missions so simple and easy to implement and make a part of my life thank you for this program. My biggest obstacle is overthinking.

I have a large water bottle that I fill with ice and drink throughout the day. I have an easier time drinking water when it’s hot outside. I drink wayyy too much soda and know that part of it is the sugar and lots of it is the caffeine kick to deal with the sleep deprivation.
When you get tired of plain water, there are a number of 0 calorie, sparkling waters that seem like a treat, no artificial flavors or sweetener. I add my own lemon/lime and drink a 1/2 hour before dinner which helps to sate your appetite.

This is a work in progress for me. I know I need to drink water but it is not something I readily reach for unless I am working out, then I fill a 32 oz water bottle and consume it, but to drink water thru out the day not so much. I will definitely work on it if it means I will lose weight! 🙂
I drink a lot of water through the day (and green tea as well.) One of my daily rules for myself is not to drink calories….. unless I’m treating myself to a glass of wine! 🙂

I’m doing a lot better at this lately and it shows. I have to put MIO in my bottles b/c I don’t like plain water. That will get better with warmer weather. I’m getting at least 4 bottles down a day. One of the Mio’s has caffeine in it so that helps fight away some of the soda and tea cravings as well.
I actually stopped buying all soft drinks at home. It was just too much temptation. Now to practice these words, “Thank you, I’ll just have water.” I know I can, I know I can. Thanks for such empowering things to try on this challenge!
Water. Water, Water….I got a insulated PINK cup that I take everywhere with me! I also filled a pitcher of water with orange and lemon slices that I’m goin to fill at night before going to bed to make sure I’m getting the full 2 liters drank!

I chuckled at the “what you need” 😀 Pretty basic! I developed the water habit a number of years ago; I’m pretty consistent at it. I don’t drink anything else, really. So I guess I should be thankful I have some of the disciplines down…that means I should be able to concentrate more on the ones I DON’T have, yet.

I have practiced this technique for about 8 yrs now.. pretty much cut my daily 64 oz diet soda and replaced with water. Another thing I was told to take your current weight and divide in half and that is the # of “true” ounces you are to drink.. which can seem like A LOT OF WATER.. and a lot of bathroom trips..lol!
This one is hard. I don’t drink soda or juices, but I don’t like water. I drink coffee and various teas. I’ll work at getting in at least 3-4 glasses.

I have a 3 cup water bottle that I try to carry with me all day. I aim to fill it twice a day (however I don’t live in a perfect world). I have noticed though that I lose a little extra weight on a weekly basis when I stick to 6-8 glasses of water per day. So this really does work.
I have a favorite cup I use for water. One thing I am doing to drink water is to make sure I drink water before I drink a non-water drink. So, when I am thirsty and want something (like a second cup of water), I know I have to drink a cup of water first.
I do like water, so that helps.
