Day 6: Drink Water, Lose Weight | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon

Time for Day 6 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon.

Read the steps first, then take 10 minutes to complete them.

Move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Ready?

What You Need:

  • Glass
  • Bottle
  • Water.

Step 1

First, let’s get the facts. We’ve all heard that drinking water helps weight loss, but is it really true?

The answer, according to scientific research, is yep!

It seems that good old H2O can help with weight loss by:

  • Helping you to eat less and/or
  • Affecting your metabolism.

And you don’t have to go crazy: a couple of glasses before meals is a good start.

But remember, it’s not what you know, it’s what you do. Just deciding to drink more water is easy – turning it into a habit is the tricky part.

Step 2

So let’s look for ways to make water drinking easy and habitual.

For instance, you could adopt any or several of these habits:

  • Drink 2 glasses of water on waking – keep a glass and bottle by your bed as a reminder
  • Fill a 2-litre bottle of water at the start of the day and aim to empty it by the end
  • When offered a drink, ask for water
  • Keep a bottle and glass of water on your desk as you work, so it’s easy to sip any time
  • Keep a bottle and glass of water on the coffee table when you’re reading or watching TV, so it’s easy to sip any time
  • Buy yourself an attractive water bottle or glass so you enjoy drinking more
  • Associate meals with water – have a drink before you sit down to eat.

Step 3

Of course, in this program we never make a decision without taking some sort of action to help change the behavior.

So choose something you can do now to help set your new water-drinking behavior.

For example:

  • Put a glass and bottle of water by your bed, desk or coffee table
  • Fill a 2-litre bottle of water for today’s drinking
  • Go buy yourself an cute water bottle and/or glass
  • Put a glass on top of your plates as a reminder to drink before or with meals.

I have a favorite cup I use for water. One thing I am doing to drink water is to make sure I drink water before I drink a non-water drink. So, when I am thirsty and want something (like a second cup of water), I know I have to drink a cup of water first.
I do like water, so that helps.

I had been drinking 2 litres of water a day but got out of the habit as the cooler days appeared. I bought myself a 2 litre filtering jug and used to fill it up and had it on my desk at work. I started holidays yesterday so I have bought the jug home and had it in my mind to start the 2 litres a day again while I am at home. I can’t believe that this has now appeared as my day 6 challenge. It must have been an omen. So I am filling my jug now and will challenge myself to start drinking the 2 litres every day.

This is my CHALLENGE. I don’t like water. However I have a decorative water container with spiket and I filled it this morning with ice, water and 3 orange slices. It tastes pretty good. In the evenings I like to drink the Special K protein powder and sometimes the Crystal light pure. So now I will add only half a pouch. 🙂

I keep a 32 oz plastic cup on my desk at work and fill it up at least three times during the day (usually more). At home I have an acryllic cup with built in lid and straw. I found that if you are not used to drinking water, you may have to experiment with it a little. I prefer mine with a straw and with ice so it’s really cold but I know others who drink it room temperature or with lemon or lime added.

Funny, I just did this yesterday. I found that with all of the back and forth from the hospital to the hotel, I wasn’t drinking nearly enough water. I bought a liter bottle of water to keep with me where ever I go. Until I can get home and implement some of these other tricks, I’ll just make sure I’m drinking two of those bottles a day.

I cannot say that I love water but I now that I feel better after drinking the water as opposed to the sticky soda. I do however love the benefits that water gives. Since I began this challenge, I have drank more water than I have in a long time. Nestle has flavored water that has ZERO calories and the flavors are not too bad.

    Hello to everyone:
Terry Tip: If your body retains water [mine does] be responsible and check with your doctor to see what he wants you to drink. Usually people with heart conditions and high blood pressure can cause water retention.
Congratulations to you all and I’m very proud of you. Keep up the good work and continue to post to be accountable. Good Luck to everyone.

I hate water haha! Pretty much always have. I would rather drink anything else than water. I don’t regularly drink soda or juice or anything sugary, mostly just tea but trying to get in the habit of drinking water is going to probably be one of the hardest tasks of the whole 30 days.

Loooove warm water with a squeeze or 2 of lemon juice first thing in the morning. It’s also great at rehydrating in summer when drinking plain water just doesn’t seem to quench my thirst. I’ve read somewhere that the acidity in the lemon juice does something to the water molecules making them easier for the body to absorb. Doesn’t really matter what the mechanicsm is, I just know it works! Thanksfully I’ve always liked my water so this one isn’t difficult for me to do at all.

I have bought a 750 ml decorative bottle and have been using it for a month now. I drink about a liter during my workout and drink about 2 more cups during the day at work. I do a lot of commuting from work, gym, church and home so I drink a lot also while I am driving. As I have said in another post, I don’t drink pop, wine, tea or coffee so my only choices are juice, V8, water and milk.

I fill my water bottle every morning before work and then again when I get home- I try not to drink soda at home- I have given up soda before but I don’t drink coffee and I like it in the morning 🙂 I have gotten in the habit of having water when I go out to eat, but no lemon 🙂

I’ve been doing this for some time now. I make sure to drink at least a gallon a day, and on days with harder, longer workouts I usually drink more like 2 gallons. I do splurge on soda once in a while (diet Coke) and I love my unsweetened ice tea. I can’t wait for summer to get here so I can have my sun tea again!
