Day 6: Drink Water, Lose Weight | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon
06
Apr
Time for Day 6 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon.
Read the steps first, then take 10 minutes to complete them.
Move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Ready?
What You Need:
- Glass
- Bottle
- Water.
Step 1
First, let’s get the facts. We’ve all heard that drinking water helps weight loss, but is it really true?
The answer, according to scientific research, is yep!
It seems that good old H2O can help with weight loss by:
- Helping you to eat less and/or
- Affecting your metabolism.
And you don’t have to go crazy: a couple of glasses before meals is a good start.
But remember, it’s not what you know, it’s what you do. Just deciding to drink more water is easy – turning it into a habit is the tricky part.
Step 2
So let’s look for ways to make water drinking easy and habitual.
For instance, you could adopt any or several of these habits:
- Drink 2 glasses of water on waking – keep a glass and bottle by your bed as a reminder
- Fill a 2-litre bottle of water at the start of the day and aim to empty it by the end
- When offered a drink, ask for water
- Keep a bottle and glass of water on your desk as you work, so it’s easy to sip any time
- Keep a bottle and glass of water on the coffee table when you’re reading or watching TV, so it’s easy to sip any time
- Buy yourself an attractive water bottle or glass so you enjoy drinking more
- Associate meals with water – have a drink before you sit down to eat.
Step 3
Of course, in this program we never make a decision without taking some sort of action to help change the behavior.
So choose something you can do now to help set your new water-drinking behavior.
For example:
- Put a glass and bottle of water by your bed, desk or coffee table
- Fill a 2-litre bottle of water for today’s drinking
- Go buy yourself an cute water bottle and/or glass
- Put a glass on top of your plates as a reminder to drink before or with meals.

Haha! I realized the other day I had started drinking soda again with out thought (hubby asked if I wanted a drink while he was in the kitchen and brought me a glass of soda instead of a water bottle that was in the fridge) So I started yesterday morning with a water bottle while I am waiting for my coffee (20 ounce) and challenging myself w/my going out bottle. Its a 32 ounce Naglene water bottle and I challenge myself to finish it by the end of the work day. yesterday I didn’t succeed and today I start a vacation so it will be a bit of challenge but I can do this.
I find this a challenge, especially when the weather is cooler!

I am getting my nice 1 litre bottle of water filled up as we speak. Thanks for the reminder to keep hydrated!

WHEW…all caught up! I started my water drinking yesterday morning and I am not quite up to 64 oz yet, but I am working on it. I have already noticed the drastic cut into my appetite it has made. I used to be a huge water drinker, but getting remarried – I had forgotten how easy it is to take on your mates bad habits. He’s a diet soda drinker and it became a staple in my house. I started by substituting a sugar free, sodium free seltzer and adding a lemon. It’s working like a charm. I hope by week’s end I am back on regular water and up to the eight glasses a day…so excited I think these are slow but lasting changes.
Drinkning water has been so challenging for me. I have no idea why. But I have been drinking between 2-3 L per day for about 5 months now. I’ve had a quite a few days where I haven’t met my goal, but I think I’m doing great! 🙂

My job keeps me on the road most of the day. So, I bought a gallon jug of water and saved the jug. I fill it every morning and take it with me. I refill my sipper bottle throughout the day. Started this a few months ago and love it. I feel so much less drawn out at the end of the day when I stay hydrated. My hard part is getting in enough water when I am off. So using your tips to start with 2 glasses when I awake, before meals and I put my just filled on the kitchen counter so every time I go into the kitchen it reminds me to have a glass of water.

I have checked in the past that the fact of having with me one small (handy) bottle of water 500ml and sipping on it through out the day made me snack less. (you just need to refill it 4 times and you know you have drank 2 litres).
I have an app for my Droid called “Drink Water Beta” (free) that you can use to track how many glasses you drink each day. Most days I drink at least 8 glasses but there are days when I only drink 5 or 6. It still helps to have the “proof” on my home screen for those days when I need to drink more.

I have now got myself a purple plastic beaker (it’s quite a big one) to keep on my desk at work. I’ve even painted my name on it so it doesn’t get lost amongst all the rubbish & filth that’s in the kitchen at work. So every day, when I get into the office & I’m waiting for my computer to start up, I will fill that purple cup & pop it on my desk for me to sip throughout the day.
At weekends / days I’m not at work, then I have made a pact with myself to drink 5 glasses of water a day (I have smaller glasses at home!). So this should be a good start to the ‘drinking more water’ challenge!
I gotta say that I do not like plain water. It does nothing for me. To help with drinking it I make a pitcher of Crystal Light Ice Tea instead. I am remaking this about every day 1/2.

I got my water bottle beside my bed first thing in the morning would probably be the easiest time for me if I make it a habit as I do not drink much water.

A little behind from a busy week end but don’t feel too bad. Again this is a habit I already have. I drink 10 or more ounces of water before allow myself my cup of coffee in the morning, fill a 20 ounce bottle of water to have on my desk at work and take frequent sips usually finishing by the end of the day sometimes have to refill. Not quite as good about it at night, this is an area I will work on this week.
I’m a few days late on this mission. I was away from home for the Easter Holiday… but drinking water is something I’ve been doing pretty well for the last several years. Especially since I bought myself a stainless stee, l double-walled water bottle fom flylady.com. It keeps my water cold ALL the time, doesn’t sweat, and my hands don’t get cold from the ice water in it. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I could try to get water in first thing in the morning though, I tend to not get started till noonish, or when I exercise and sometimes I play ” catch up” at night.
