Day 10: Detox Your Diet Supplies | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon

Here we are at Day 10 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon. We’re one-third of the way through!

All tasks in the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon are adapted from the 52 Weight Loss Missions program.

Read the steps first, then take 10 minutes to complete them.

Move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Ready?

What You Need:

  • A big trash bag.

Step 1

Today we want to get rid of foods that remind you of old habits and sabotage your new eating program.

First, let’s review the specific actions you chose on:

Based on these decisions, make a list of foods you need to clean out of your life so you can stick to your diet actions.

You only need to detox your space according to the specific actions you’ve chosen. If you’re giving up desserts, then get rid of the desserts. If you’re cutting down on alcohol, then put the alcohol out of view. Make list of all the foods you will dispose of.

Step 2

Right, now let’s go around to all the areas you keep food and clean them out.

We need to detox:

  • The pantry
  • Your car
  • Other cars you use
  • Your desk drawers
  • Your nightstand
  • Your purse
  • The basement
  • Anywhere else you store food.

Take the discarded items straight outside to the trash. It’s okay – I’ll wait.

Yes, you’re wasting food. But it’s less of a waste than if it took up residence as fat on your body and disappointment in your mind. Let it go.

Step 3

If you want to detox your space of treats that other household members want to keep, what do you do? Ask them to store their treats out of the pantry or any place where you may accidentally come across them. You may have to remind them a couple of times. 🙂

Sounds like I am one of the few that struggle with this. 🙂 Once I am home I will move the kids Easter baskets off the kitchen counter so I don’t grab chocolate when I walk past. (My kids are small and I don’t like them having full access to the baskets). As for other snacks I buy them things I don’t like to snack on so that helps. Just got to move the chocolate out of eye sight.

No soda in the house so I’m good to go on that issue! Stocked up on fruit and fresh veggies once we got moved last week so they satisfy my occasional grazing temptation. Haven’t even wanted any part of hubby’s apple fritters. Since I have to go away from the house to get internet, will check on other items once I’m home– honest I WILL!

I’ve been trying to keep fresh fruits and veggies around for snacks, so I don’t really have much in the way of junk food at my house right now. Except for the kids’ Easter candy. I’ve been allowing myself 1-2 small pieces a day, just so I don’t feel deprived as the kids keep asking for it; but it’ll be gone soon.

We have finished eating our Easter Eggs and there is nothing left in the house that is mentioned in the other tasks. I will not buy sweets, chocolate, biscuits or cake when I do the weekly shop tomorrow 🙂

Not too many sweets, but it is the chips and salsa and cheese dip that my roommate loves so much. I put them in one place on a top shelf with a huge sign that reminds me to Leave them Alone. Plus it feels really good to know that I don’t have all that temptation left in the house after getting rid of the other stuff. It is nice to go in the kitchen without feeling that I have to close my eyes and struggle to keep temptation away.

I haven’t been buying junk food in the last few weeks so there’s not much in the house anymore. Easter candy and girl scout cookies are in the deep freezer downstairs where I won’t touch them. Any other snacks are in the pantry – our pantry has deep shelves and the snacks I would eat are buried deep on the top shelf behind my son’s special snacks because of his allergies.

I don’t have much to throw out which makes me feel pretty good. I did put up the extra Easter candy and I am certain I will forget about it. I might take it to work. I usually let my daughter pick a snack that she likes from the grocery store and I have done well not eating any of her snacks when I have the urge for sweets. I found that fudge pops (60 calories) satisfy my fix for chocolate and it isn’t every day that I can eat one and I definitely won’t eat more than one at a time!

I do keep those snacky foods in the house only because of the hubby and the kids. I just stay away from it. I know that if I eat those things and cheat on my plan, that I will only be hurting myself and sabatoging my own weight loss. I have goals so even if there is a morsel of snacky foods in the house it is on my own conscious if I decide to grab it. I also want to throw in that I do not believe in depriving myself of anything because I know that in the end what will happen with an entire box of little debbie’s. I only eat those snacky foods when when the craving gets to be too much. My reward for losing weight… small shopping trip for new clothes in a smaller size of course!
