Day 10: Detox Your Diet Supplies | 30-Day Weight Loss-athon
10
Apr
Here we are at Day 10 of the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon. We’re one-third of the way through!
All tasks in the 30-Day Weight Loss-athon are adapted from the 52 Weight Loss Missions program.
Read the steps first, then take 10 minutes to complete them.
Move fast, act quickly and stop over-thinking. Ready?
What You Need:
- A big trash bag.
Step 1
Today we want to get rid of foods that remind you of old habits and sabotage your new eating program.
First, let’s review the specific actions you chose on:
- Day 4: Tweak Your Diet
- Day 7: Count The Calories That Really Count
- Day 8: Splurge Strategically Part 1
- Day 9: Splurge Strategically Part 2.
Based on these decisions, make a list of foods you need to clean out of your life so you can stick to your diet actions.
You only need to detox your space according to the specific actions you’ve chosen. If you’re giving up desserts, then get rid of the desserts. If you’re cutting down on alcohol, then put the alcohol out of view. Make list of all the foods you will dispose of.
Step 2
Right, now let’s go around to all the areas you keep food and clean them out.
We need to detox:
- The pantry
- Your car
- Other cars you use
- Your desk drawers
- Your nightstand
- Your purse
- The basement
- Anywhere else you store food.
Take the discarded items straight outside to the trash. It’s okay – I’ll wait.
Yes, you’re wasting food. But it’s less of a waste than if it took up residence as fat on your body and disappointment in your mind. Let it go.
Step 3
If you want to detox your space of treats that other household members want to keep, what do you do? Ask them to store their treats out of the pantry or any place where you may accidentally come across them. You may have to remind them a couple of times. 🙂

I do the food shopping around here and try my best to shop sensibly. I found that when I am hungry, I tend to purchase the garbage I don’t need in my home. So now, I go grocery shopping after dinner, not only do I buy things on my list, I’m out of the supermarket quicker, since there aren’t many shoppers. I’ve stopped buying diet sodas and have replaced them by Crystal lite-like packs, now there is room to walk around my kitchen and it’s TIDY! I snack on ‘old school’ pop in the saucepan pop corn, I am not ready to use the air popper…there is something artificial about it. Instead of ice-cram ( my true love), I buy the little greek yogurt thingies…I buy the ones on sale, the near-to ‘expiration’ date forces me to consume them daily – many health benefits. I’ve found that making my own ‘hot wings’ is economical too. The sauce is easy to make (think smart substitution- margarine instead of butter). It cost me approx $15/- for 10 lbs of wings…in the restaurant that’s maybe 2 plates. I baggy-ied small portions to pop into the oven whenever we want an ‘easy’ dinner…yes its laborious, but I know what is in it.

This is another ‘been there, done that’. Both my husband and I keep junk food out of the house. Can’t drink sweetened drinks, won’t drink diet drinks with aspartame. Switched from fruit juices, which have too much sugar and no fiber to low sodium V8 for the potassium. The low sodium V8 has no taste so I add a Tbs of a No Salt spice mix to a large bottle the night before I start to use it. Works great. Tabasco sauce works, too.
