Mission 10: Keep A Log, Blog Or Journal

In Mission 3: Flick On The Action Switch we changed our mindset to notice and put energy into specific actions.

In the missions since then, we’ve decided what those specific actions should be – in both diet and exercise.

Now we’re going to set ourselves up to monitor those actions, deal with the inevitable lapses, and maintain motivation.

We’ll do this by becoming observers in our weight-loss journey. And to observe, we need to suspend judgment.

The payoff for this observation is invaluable. It will yield information about what works for us and what doesn’t work for us – information that can’t be found in any book, program or system.

So let’s get set up to uncover that information!

I will write in my diary, hopefully this wil help – I am more for keeping things in my head but every time I say in my head “I won’t eat this again because I will remember how bad it made me feel” doesn’t work! I never remember!

Act II Popcorn is best for dieting. In your Journal write important events down. You can also tape or paste in a souvenir from the milestone. I.e. award letter; ticket to the special event; an invitation; airplane or cruise tickets with the events during your vacation or business trip.

Knowing that I am going to write down what I eat or drink really makes me think about what I’m doing. Quite a few times I have dropped the chocolate biscuit and grabbed an apple instead. Then my kids ask, can I have an apple too? I love the knock-on effect!

I like my paper and pen, so I’ve got a journal to record in. My overeating is largely related to stress and emotions, so I plan to pay particular attention to my emotional responses and plan better way of dealing with them. My youngest daughter has severe disabilities, and the emotional plunges and day-to-day stresses need a more healthy outlet (although, if you asked me, I’d say that chocolate really does help :)).
